Kaziranga National Park

The Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in Kanchanjuri, Assam. This national park is one of the most popular wildlife holiday destinations in India and is famous for its One-Horned Rhino which has unfortunately become an endangered species today. The area of the national park is filled with elephant-grass meadows, swampy lagoons and dense forest. Kaziranga National Park is home to more than 2200 Indian one-horned Rhinos which is approximately 2/3rd of their total worldwide population. Along with the great one-horned Rhinos the place is also home to a large number of elephants, wild water buffaloes and swamp deer. Over time with the increase in tiger population in Kaziranga, the national park was declared as a Tiger Reserve in 2006. Apart from the animals listed above, the national park also has its fair share of bird sitings, especially migratory birds from Central Asia which are sited in the winters.
